In the manner of Guy Carleton Wiggins is this beautiful landscape LARGE oil on canvass. It is 25" X 30" and is in great condition for its age. A conservator said the varnish is yellowing a bit from age, but that gives it an even more "antique" look. No major repairs seen under UV light as shown. The canvass stretcher is nailed in utilizing period correct methods from 1938 and the canvass verso itself appears genuine as well. The newspaper articles are from the Courier News that I believe is describing this actual painting dated October 1938 regarding the Plainfield N.J. Arts Association where Guy C. Wiggins painted on a stage in front of 200 people which would explain it's large size. The article say's he used only 6 colors - White, Red, Blue, Green, Brown, & Yellow (as seen in the painting) and did it within an hours time. I cant get any more provenance than I have and am working on a J.W Morrice and a B.leader authentication, so I need to drop one of the 3. I chose this one to let go. I have NO reserve on this and will ship for FREE in the continental U.S. I obtained it at an Estate Auction from New York where the provenance at that time was listed as an "Estate in New Jersey". The President of the Plainfield N.J. Arts Association in 1938 was W.C. Harvey. He had a Guy Carleton Wiggins painting that he consigned to Bonhams (see pictures) indicating he was a close friend of Guy Wiggins and this painting may have come from his estate in New Jersey. Guy Carleton Wiggins is best known for his Cityscapes, but also for his landscapes of which there are fewer and thus in high demand.
